Hostel Daze S4 (2023)
Story: The gang is back for the fourth and final year of their engineering to say goodbye to their dorm lives and prepare for adulthood.
Directed by Abhinav Anand and co-written by Suprith Kundar, Harish Peddinti, and Talha Siddiqui, this six-part half-hour show is always been known for its witty one-liners and genuine emotions. 'Hostel Daze Season 4' continues to shine, staying true to its roots as a campus drama that captures the essence of college life like few other series before it.
As our gang embarks on their final year, the hostel dynamics have evolved. The laughter is a bit more subdued, and the worries are a bit heavier. Akanksha (Ahsaas Channa), had taken on the role of the placement coordinator, burdened with the responsibility of securing her friends' future. Chirag (Luv Vispute) and Nabomita (Ayushi Gupta) had found love within the chaos, while Rupesh, affectionately known as Jaat (Shubham Gaur), grappled with a crisis of confidence regarding his prospects in the job market. Jatin Kishore, aka Jhantoo (Nikhil Vijay), faced the challenge of improving his grades to even qualify for interviews, and Ankit, known as Dopa (Utsav Sarkar), was nursing a broken heart after his breakup with Akanksha.
The narrative of Hostel Daze Season 4 breaks the fourth wall, as it has in previous seasons, with new guest actors (Faisal Malik, Gopal Dutt, Jamini Pathak, and Deven Bhojani) relaying the story of campus life. This added gravitas to the show, offering heartwarming moments that resonated with the audience. The dialogues were relatable, effortlessly connecting with the viewers. Unlike its predecessors, this season delved deeper into nostalgia and showcased the more mature side of its beloved characters. It may have been slower, but it remained highly watchable.
Each episode addresses a different issue faced by the final-year students. The show delicately tackled themes such as college romances and breakups, feelings of isolation, peer pressure, fears about the future, and the emotional farewells that came with the territory. The maturity in handling these issues never overshadowed the light-hearted tone that had become the show's trademark. It was all fun and games, but it was also poignant when it needed to be.
The cast of Hostel Daze carried the weight of the script with aplomb. Utsav Sarkar's portrayal of Ankit was poignant, depicting a character who was lost without Akanksha but eventually learned to navigate life on his terms. Luv Vispute and Aayushi Gupta's onscreen chemistry as Chirag and Nabomita was endearing and heartfelt. Nikhil Vijay's Jhantoo and Shubham Gaur's Jaat had fewer moments to shine compared to previous seasons, but they still delivered their roles with finesse. Ahsaas Channa, as the earnest Akanksha, shone as the glue holding the gang together.
Hostel Daze's final season was less about fitting in and more about growing up. It explored the territory of adulthood, with life presenting choices and challenges that the gang had to overcome to secure their futures. This relatability, combined with the nostalgia that naturally comes with a finale, made it a must-watch for fans who had journeyed with the gang through their ups and downs in the hostel.
As the curtains fall on 'Hostel Daze', it leaves behind a trail of laughter, tears, and memories, much like the college life it celebrated. The gang bids farewell to their hostel lives, but the show leaves an indelible mark on its viewers, reminding them of the beautiful chaos of youth and the bonds forged in the hostel
orridors. Overall, it's a fitting conclusion to a remarkable campus drama.
